Position: Assistant Brewer

Starting: Immediately

Salary: Competitive (Dependent on experience and qualifications) + Pension

Hours: 40 hours Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend checks as part of a rota

Annual Leave: Statutory 28 days

Location: Great Newsome Brewery, Great Newsome Farm, South Frodingham, Winestead, Hull, East Yorkshire, HU12 0NR

About Us

Great Newsome Brewery is a multiple-time World Beer Award winning brewery, based in East Yorkshire and close to the city of Hull. The business produces both a core range of real ale and seasonal specials, supplying customers throughout the Yorkshire & Lincolnshire region as well as the occasional overseas export. Great Newsome is based on a forward-thinking, working family farm (which won the 2020 Family Farming Business of the Year) and provides for a calm working environment.

What We’re Looking For

Duties:

  • Assisting the senior brewer with ingredient formulation and emptying brewing vessels
  • Filling and washing casks
  • Cleaning brewing equipment and work surfaces
  • Data entry
  • Maintaining an inventory of beer stock levels
  • Helping to pack boxes for ecommerce orders at peak times
  • Occasionally providing cover for delivery drivers at peak times
  • Helping to load the brewery’s vans at peak times
  • Representing the brewery at beer festivals, events, etc
  • Critically evaluating beer at each stage of brewing

Requirements:

  • Able to maintain high standards
  • Willing to learn new skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Clean UK driving licence
  • Able to work in a small team
  • Passionate about beer and its production
  • A real eye for detail, able to maintain standards and focus on hygiene
  • Able to carry out the physical nature of moving cask beer
  • Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Forklift qualifications
  • Previous brewery experience
  • Brewing qualifications (IBD or similar)
  • Familiarity with Brewman software
