Great Newsome scoops three accolades in Great Taste Awards - Great Newsome Brewery

Judges at the 2018 Great Taste Awards have recognised three of Great Newsome Brewery’s beers.

The East Yorkshire farm based brewery, won two stars for its Liquorice Lads Stout and one star each for Finkle and Frothingham Best.

It follows previous wins at the Great Taste Awards for the classic beers which are brewed using barley grown at the farm near Winestead in the Holderness countryside to the east of Hull.

Great Newsome, which is now in its 11th year of business, has picked up numerous awards for the quality and flavour of its popular beers, including four World Beer Awards.

Matthew Hodgson, managing director, said: “Naturally, we are very pleased with the latest accolades from the Great Taste Awards. It makes our hard work worthwhile and is also brilliant for business as consumers trust and look our for the Great Taste badge when they are shopping.”

All the winners can be found at the brewery’s website shop along with seasonal brews and there is also a competition running on Facebook to win a case of summery style beers.

 What the judges said:

Liquorice Lads Stout. 2 Stars

Blackish brown in colour. Root beer on the nose. Lovely toasted flavour on the palate with a hit of sweet and salty liquorice all at once. Has an attractive smokiness. Would pair with rich food-game, venison. A very well made complex yet refreshing stout.

Finkle 1 star

Attractive companion to a glass, with clarity and bright hue. Fruity nose with a hoppy aftertaste that lingers on the palate. There is a quality identifiable in the ingredients, with a good malt underbelly, which work harmoniously together. Everything it should be.

Frothingham Best 1 star

A classic bitter of the kind you don’t find anymore – a real blast of nostalgia that speaks to you of working men’s clubs. a quiet beer that just makes you want to keep drinking it – smells like a brewery.
